Quote of the Week: "Some People Are Worth Melting For"

We all knew from the instant we saw Olaf come to life that he was going to be one of the best pieces of comic relief to grace our screens. But did we know that he was also going to deliver one of the most heartwarming quotes (literally) in the Disney franchise?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock and somehow escaped the Frozen obsession, you know that this quote comes at a pivotal moment in Frozen when Anna is on the brink of freezing to death and Olaf comes in to help keep her warm. Being the snowman that he is, Olaf obviously starts to melt while he stands in front of the flames with Anna, and though she wants Olaf to leave so that he doesn’t melt away, he insists on staying with her. We know that if Olaf melts, that spells the end for him, but that’s something he’s willing to do for Anna.

I think the more important aspect of this quote is not that Olaf was willing to risk his life for Anna, but rather that he found someone he was willing to risk his life for. And I think this says a lot about the people we choose to surround ourselves with. I don’t believe that every one of our relationships need to be these “ride-or-die” types, but I do think that the people we are closest to should be the people we’d “melt” for. And we should likewise be theirs, or at least be somewhere on that proverbial list. It’s when we value someone more than they value us that we may sometimes find ourselves in unequal relationships, which mostly take a toll on our mental well-being.

I can say for a fact that the time in my life when I felt the most aimless was when I felt like there was no one in my life who would put anything at risk for me nor I for them. I truly felt like I lacked any sort of meaningful connection with anyone, like all of my relationships were delicate at best. But when I re-evaluated, when I worked my way toward repairing my mentality and finding the beauty and value in existing relationships while building upon new ones, I found that what tethered me to life and to my vitality were these very relationships. I found the people who I would “melt” for, and for that I will always cherish them.
